Scottish indie rockers Frightened Rabbit are heading two shows at Webster Hall this fall, one on October 24th and the second on October 25th. The group released their fourth studio album Pedestrian Verse in February of this year. The album takes the band in a new, and a bit more reserved, direction yet still manages to provide a robust spectrum of warm buzzy sounds and catchy lyrics. Key tracks include “Late March, Death March” and “The Woodpile“. Grab pre-sale for both shows today.

Charli XCX kicked some serious ass at her last set of shows in NYC, and the British beauty is making her rounds again. She’ll be headlining a show at Gramercy Theatre on September 21st. She released her highly anticipated sophomore album True Romance earlier this spring and has since been gaining serious momentum, booking bigger and bigger shows. This show absolutely will sell out, so grab pre-sale on Thursday at 10am.

HONORABLE MENTION:

Heaven, a NYC based psych dream pop group, will be headlining a show at The Mercury Lounge on August 1st. Pre-sale starts at noon today.

Portugal. The Man will be headlining a show at Terminal 5 on September 27th. Grab pre-sale at noon. This show will be killer.

The show is being presented by (le) Poisson Rouge and Wordless Music. Should be the PERFECT setting for Lopatin’s dark experimental sounds.

——

Daniel Lopatin is moving his experimental electro to the big leagues, as Warp Records have announced that they’ll release the next Oneohtrix Point Never LP, R Plus Seven on October 1, 2013. Lopatin’s move to Warp will bring more than a change in distribution, as the press release advises that the record is a major departure from his previous work. While it will contain many of Lopatin’s familiar touchstones, his new music will come as close to traditional song structure as it ever has. The tracklist and album art is below.

Noise duo No Age recently, excitedly, announced An Object, their 4th studio album, to be released on Sub Pop August 20th. We’ve heard the first track “C’mon Stimmung” (also read album details and track listing at that link), and now NPR has an exclusive stream of second single “No Ground.”

Listen to it HERE. Unlike “C’mon Stimmung” it’s minimal: still loud but NO drums. Chanting, Ramones-esque vocals.

An Object will at some point be available for pre-order HERE.

Generally speaking, most comic music videos nowadays, save for Weird Al Yankovic or the Lonely Island boys, are just overly thirsty attempts, by some advertising schmuck or PR wunderkind, trying to get us to buy their product through viral video sensationalism. The video for “I Wanna Channing All Over Your Tatum,” from the folks at Jimmy Kimmel Live, is most certainly one of those efforts. Which isn’t exactly a brain teaser to figure out; the song does feature Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx, who have a movie to promote at the moment (a movie whose name I shall not mention here, cause I ain’t nobody’s corporate pawn!). But who cares, I’m a sucker for a catchy, stupid song that make one gaffaw at it’s utter wtf-ness. (Watch, sing along and giggle after the jump)

Although the song is about four months old, the music video premiered last night on ‘Kimmel.’

As a visual treat, a few famous, and sexy, faces pop up, including; Matt Damon, Miley Cyrus, and Olivia Munn. (Gabourey Sidibe’s in there too) One thing you won’t get though, is an explanation for what exactly “Channing” on someone’s Tatum is. That’s not for lack of trying on Tatums part either, he breaks it down in a rap for us. Alas, maybe we just don’t have the bandwidth to process the songs deep, hidden, philosophical meaning. Just kidding, it’s totally about c@#*%ing on someone’s ta#!%.

If you want to take a trip down the comedic song parody rabbit hole – and you know you want to, Alice – Lonely Island
<href=" http://thelonelyisland.blogspot.com/2013/06/the-wack-album-available-worldwide.html?m=1"> dropped their new record, The Wack Album, on Monday. Check out the recent single “Go Kindergarten” feat. Robyn, below.

Also, the legendary Yankovic is currently on tour bringing that comedy and music fusion straight to yo’ grill fool. He’ll be on the east coast in late July at Symphony Hall in ATL, GA.
