Close Encounters: Intimacy In Greenpoint

Brooklyn. It’s where shows happen in Chinese buffets, delis, hardware stores… and now yoga studios. That’s right, two of the most prominent members (and organizers) of the My Social List-sponsored Brooklyn/Lower East Side Indie Meetup group, Kirsten Shores and Henry Cross have collaborated to open a new intimate music venue within the friendly confines of Hosh Yoga (55 Nassau Avenue.)

Tucked away in an inauspicious corner on the Williamsburg/Greenpoint border is the intimate space which has been holding an aptly titled new music series called Close Encounters, which focuses on acoustic sets from local artists.

They’re hosting their very own Valentine’s Day show Saturday night, called “Music is for Lovers,” an intimate show in an intimate space perfect before you get intimate with your significant other. The venue is BYOB, or you can stop off across the street at Sprizenhaus for a few beforehand for a pre-show buzz. Doors are at 9 p.m., and the show runs until 11. It features singer-songwriters Memento Mori and Bill Bartholomew along with Sara McDonald Band.
