Calvin Love, “Missions”

I’ve been looking for an excuse to blog about Calvin Love for a few weeks now; as if I need an excuse as the humble narrator/editor-in-chief of this two-bit blogging outfit. Narratives are nice though, eh?

Anywayyyyyyyyyyyyy, earlier today, lo-fi Canadian songwriter Calvin Love released a new video for Missions, a pretty incredible track from his new-ish under-the-radar LP New Radar (see what I did there?)

Keep your eye on Love this year. Cursory detective work would suggest that he has decent shot of being picked up by Captured Tracks at some point in the calendar year. He’s touring with two of the label’s rapidly rising talents, Mac DeMarco (who is also touring with Phoenix) and Naomi Punk in the coming months (including dates in Brooklyn), a proverbial “kicking of the tires” or “testing of the waters” or “some other speculative cliche,” it would seem.

Love’s atmospheric guitar/synth pop fits somewhere in between his fellow countryman and tourmate, Mac DeMarco and DIIV (who of course, are also on Captured Tracks.) But don’t let me tell you that. The video and a full stream of New Radar are yours after the jump, along with info on Love’s show at Music Hall of Williamsburg as part of the aforementioned Captured Tracks buzzband 2k13 tour.

Tickets are still available for Mac DeMarco, Naomi Punk, Calvin Love and Eola at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday, March 1.

  • No.

Calvin is fantastic but writing about and referring back to yourself is some hack shit.
