Whether you were busy at Carnegie Hall (as I was), running around the subways with no pants on, watching playoff football or laughing at the emotional speeches drunk celebrities made last night at the Golden Globes, there’s bound to be something you slept on or forgot about. This weekend was one of comebacks, with 4 mega-stars/groups of the early 2000′s returning to the spotlight, in one way or another. Hopefully these new tunes make your Monday a little more bearable…
It was announced on Friday that Destiny’s Child would be reuniting as part of Beyoncé‘s performance at this year’s Superbowl in New Orleans. And in addition to releasing a greatest hits compilation Love Songs at the end of the month, the trio recorded a new song “Nuclear” as added bonus. I was underwhelmed, and you don’t really get any Kelly or Michelle ’til halfway through, but take a listen:
As promised, Big Boi laid down a verse for a remix of Frank Ocean‘s swirling “Pink Matter,” which already featured Andre 3000. I guess you can call it an Outkast reunion of sorts. The verse is prettttty raunchy (“make her ass spread like the back of a cobra”). Check it out:
In perhaps the most exciting news, JT officially announced his return last night by dropping a single and posting a letter to fans. You can listen and read right HERE. It’s a funky, Timbaland-produced number called “Suit & Tie” featuring a verse by Jay Z. Honestly that verse sounds very tired, but between the chopped-and-screwed intro and JT‘s timeless falsetto, I am very much looking forward to what else is in store.
And last but certainly not least, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs debuted two new songs at their show in Pomona last night, and you can watch the videos below. Both sound great; nothing like hearing Karen O screech about sucking your blood over and over. Really looking forward to that new album this spring, which we now know is called Mosquito, is out April 16, and has insane cover art:
