Looks like we survived the end of the world, managed to gain 10 pounds at Christmas and pass out by 1:00am on NYE. Oh that was just me? Cool. Regardless, I’m glad to get back into a normal flow of shows on sale, because I don’t know about you but I’m ready to see some good shit in 2013. Not too much quantity this week, but there’s definitely some quality.
Ra Ra Riot‘s CD release party at Music Hall of Williamsburg on January 22nd should be a killer event. The New York based group’s third album, Beta Love, steers away from their chamber rock sound to explore more synth heavy beats. It’s the group’s first album without cellist Alexandra Lawn, so it should be interesting to see how/if their live shows shift. Tickets go on sale at noon today. BUT if for some reason you can’t grab tickets, never fear! The whole set will be available as a live stream via The Bowery Presents Live YouTube channel where you can also check out the group’s new track “I Shut Off”.
Five piece Brooklyn rockers, The Bottom Dollars, are headlining a show at The Mercury Lounge on January 26th. The boys released their sophomore album, Good News, Everyone!, this past September and spent a significant amount of time cruising through the country from music festivals (SXSW, CMJ) to packed audiences throughout various venues. Check out their luscious, blues-infused, classic rock tracks “Pieces” and “Peace & Anarchy”. Tickets are available at noon today.
After nearly a 7 year hiatus, Snowden is back with a sophomore album to follow up his very well received debut Anti-Anti. Jordan Jeffares’ new album, No One In Control, set to be released on January 22, is also the first album out since he signed with Kings of Leon’s record label Serpents and Snakes. The debut single for the album, “The Beat Comes” was just released a few months ago and it’s FANTASTIC. I’m excited for this one. See Snowden at The Mercury Lounge on February 23rd, tickets can be yours at noon. Get on this.
The Wood Brothers, made up of Oliver and Chris Wood, have this really great twangy quality about their music. It straddles the line between folk and southern rock perfectly. The brothers are setting out on the second leg of their tour this year and will be hitting up The Mercury Lounge on March 1st. Tickets go on sale at noon today.
